About
SMJ Steel & Fabrication, INC. is a locally owned small business in Northridge, California. We specialize in both architectural and structural steel: commercial structural steel, stairs, and trusses, plus custom residential fabrication such as ornamental iron, guard rails, and railings.
The shop is sized to do the work carefully. That means fewer jobs at once, more attention to the job in front of us, and a direct line from the first conversation to the finished install. Commercial frames and stairs, and residential railings and ironwork, are built in the same shop and installed by the same crew.
What “locally owned” means here
We are based in Northridge. We are not a showroom with a distant factory. Measurements, fabrication, and installation are handled as one sequence. Customers can talk to the people doing the work instead of a call center.
Northridge and the San Fernando Valley have a lot of older houses, additions, and mixed construction. Stock parts rarely land cleanly on those jobs. Custom fabrication is the normal path, not the exception.
How we work
Shop fabrication
Steel is cut, fitted, and welded in the shop so the piece is controlled before it ever reaches the house. That keeps the install cleaner and the lines true.
On-site installation
Installation is part of the job, not an extra you have to arrange. We set the work, fasten it, and check that it sits the way it was built to sit.
Materials and finish
Most of the work is steel. Ornamental iron, railings, guards, and stairs can be specified with the finish the job needs – paint, powder, or a shop primer ready for a painter. Exact finish options are confirmed on each quote.
